Our new architecture, running Nginx and PHP-FPM, is providing very noticeable performance improvements. Performance improvementsĭocker gives us no performance improvements whatsoever, but it doesn't penalize us either. And we're able to easily run different versions of PHP on the same server. With Docker, we take this one step further: we mount the web root into the Docker container as a read-only volume - so even if an attacker somehow gained root through the PHP interpreter itself, the attacker still cannot plant their executable code into the site.Ī couple other big wins here: we support a few "legacy" installations of older Drupal and some non-Drupal sites - we're now able to contain and isolate those from other sites on the same server, so a compromise on one site cannot hop over and infect another site. In our former LAMP setup, we would use filesystem permissions to prevent the Apache web user from being able to write to the filesystem, anywhere other than the directories with assets Drupal manages on the disk (images, videos, aggregated CSS/JS, etc) and prevent execution in the directories where Drupal can write. So the first place to secure is the executable environment - PHP itself. And the vast majority of attacked websites we see (5 so far this year) plant a malicious script in an executable environment and run it. That said, I'm reasonably confident that Linux containers do an effective job of isolating processes running inside them to just what's visible to those processes. It is early enough days that I'm not entirely confident somebody gaining a shell on the host couldn't somehow attack the Docker process itself to gain root access and modify whatever they want on the host. For example, adding somebody to the "docker" group is quite effectively giving them full root access to the entire host. Our philosophy on production Docker use is that containers are ephemeral - they get destroyed and recreated all the time, and so there should not be anything in the container we care about losing.ĭocker is still a pretty young technology, and it clearly opens up some new avenues of attack, which need to be carefully considered. Inside each container that might need to send email, we've added/configured SSMTP and pointed it at the host.Īlso on the host: all data, databases, deployment tools (git, drush, composer, etc), cron jobs (using drush for Drupal cron). We also run a local Postfix instance on the host that relays mail to our mail server. We didn't end up solving this - we just removed the wildcard DNS entry and then everything worked fine. We ran into problems having a wildcard DNS entry set up (*.) when the hostname was part of that domain - most requests for a hostname that was not fully-qualified resolved the wildcard DNS entry instead of the local DNSMasq entry. There is a lag before the host DNSmasq populates new container addresses - we currently have an update script that polls every 10 seconds for new changes, and Nginx needs a reload to see a change in a container IP address. There are a couple gotchas with this approach: Using this pattern, we can link all the containers together by a simple hostname, without having to link specific containers together. We configure DNSMasq on the host so that you can reach any container on the host by its name, and set each container to use the host's DNS. When using Docker, each container has a different IP address bridged on the host, and can expose different TCP ports, or sockets in the filesystem, to allow connections. On our production servers, we have kept Nginx, Postfix, and DNSMasq outside the containers and installed directly on the host. So far we have put PHP, MariaDB, Apache Solr, and a bunch of other supporting services into containers. So the best practices are to have a different container for each necessary service, not a single container with the whole set. You might think of Linux containers as a form of "cheap virtualization." However, the way the Docker community has come to use them is more like a chroot jail - a way of isolating a single process into a container that protects the rest of the system if that process gets compromised, and not a full operating system with multiple processes. Docker is a system for managing Linux containers. If you're a technical person and haven't heard of Docker, you must have been offline for a couple years. We still use Linux, MariaDB and PHP, of course, but instead of Apache we've moved to Nginx, and we've added Docker and Salt. This year we're replacing our old "traditional" LAMP stack with an entirely less pronounceable LNDMPS version. Three nice benefits we get from our new standard Drupal server architecture.

The speed at which the furnaces work and the overall throughput is just ridiculous, believe me. The furnaces are filled with PM3s and the Beacons with SM3s. Here is one of my smart furnace setups using beacons: But that is only the case if, like said before, the furnaces are running 24/7 without interruption. With Beacons using Speed Modules you can cut the amount of furnaces needed to a fifth or something in that magnitude if I remember my math correctly.Īlso using the PM's in furnaces + SM's in beacons results in MUCH less power drain than furnaces using PM's but without Beacons pushing their speed. The Speed Modules have the nice sideeffect that you will need less Furnaces, therefore less space, allowing more compact solutions, which is especially interesting if you are aiming for high throughput because I would just hate to have HUGE arrays of furnaces because one needs 150-200 or more furnaces to get the througput needed to do some of the ridiculous stuff some people are doing. While I understand DerivePi's opinion of not using Speed Modules in favor of having more furnaces instead, but since there is no other option on what to use you eventually have to put Speed Modules in the Beacons. So one has to make sure that the furnaces are working 24/7 or otherwise using beacons just doesn't pay off in the first place. I did the math on that with some excel sheets and basically the Beacons kill the efficiency anyways due to them being a constant power drain. When using Beacons the EM's disqualify themselves automatically because there is NO combination of EM's with PM's that will ever result in something useful and since Energy/Power is basically for free it makes no sense to use them. I'm with DerivePi on the Efficiency Modules. Since I've been experimenting around with the topic the past 8 months I'd say:įurnaces: Productivity Modules (Since they can't be put inside Beacons) What designs and combinations do you other factorio users use or like? Pros- greater rate of smelting, get more copper plate from less ore, MAY save me time as I MAY need less outpostsĬons- energy consumption goes from 180 kW per furnace to 504 kW per furnace, 80% more pollution, cost of producing said modules, cost of producing solar panels/accumulators Is it worth it to have this setup with the following pros/cons or should I use other module combinations? Currently I'm powering my factory with solar panels/accumulators, totaling up to 108 MW of power during the day. The only cons are WAY INCREASED power demand and more pollution, which I don't really care about. This works out so that I get 12% productivity without losing speed (because of the beacons). So far, I have 2 level 2 speed modules in the beacons with 2 level 2 productivity modules in the electric furnaces. However, I don't know what the most efficient setup with modules in both the beacons and furnaces might be. Recently in one of my factories I have started using beacons with my copper smelting. Analysis of modern and fossil plant cuticles by Curie point Py-GC and Curie point Py-GC-MS: Recognition of a new, highly aliphatic and resistant biopolymer. The new method successfully allows us to recover its delicate cuticular membranes with sufficient sizes for SEM observation and stomatal frequency analysis.Ĭutler D F, Alvin K L, Price C E, eds. But its deciduous habit produces thin cuticles and makes the preparation of clean cuticular membranes a tedious process. glyptostroboides, as a comparative reference, has been widely used as a model genus for the study of evolution of plants, palaeoclimatological reconstruction, and plant adaptation to climate changes. Metasequoia, with well-documented and widely-distributed fossil records since the Late Cretaceous and with a living representative, M. We demonstrate the method by using middle Eocene Metasequoia fossils that were notorious for the difficulty of recovering large-sized clean cuticular membranes due to their thin and fragile nature. Here, we describe a new method using clear nail polish as a medium to “strengthen” the originally thin and fragile cuticles prior to maceration procedures. This has largely hampered the usage of fossil cuticle analysis in palaeobotanical and palaeoclimatological research. However, for plants with originally thin and fragile cuticles, e.g., most deciduous plants, conventional techniques sometimes fail to obtain cuticular membranes with sufficient size, or sometimes unable to recover any. In recent decades the application of stomatal frequency data that are relied on precise calculation of stomata on plant fossil cuticles to reconstruct ancient atmospheric CO 2 concentration made the preparation of cuticular membrane with sufficient size a critical technique in palaeoclimatological research. The research is also supported by the Senckenberg Nature Museum in Germany.Leaf cuticle analysis has long been a powerful tool for fossil plant identification, systematics, and palaeoclimatological recon-struction. Study of its fossils will enable researchers to understand how conifer plants distribute spatially and respond to climate changeĪs the first Metasequoia fossil in southwest China and the southernmost fossil of the genus around the world, the newfound fossils considerably expands the spatial distribution range of Metasequoia in the geological past.Īccording to the research published in Review of Palaeobotany and Palynology, the disappearance of Metasequoia in southwest China might be related to the evolutionary stasis of Metasequoia, most likely preventing necessary adaptations to increasing winter and spring aridity induced by the intensification of the Asian monsoon in this region during the Neogene. The Metasequoia is an ancient plant with a narrow natural distribution in central China. Numerous well-preserved leafy shoots and seed cones of Metasequoia have been brought to light after a deep sleep of between about 16-11 million years ago at the middle Miocene deposits in Sanzhangtian village, southwest China's Yunnan Province, by researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden. BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) - Chinese researchers have discovered a Metasequoia fossil in southwest China, the furthest south such a fossil that has ever been discovered, revealing a possible cause for the Metasequoia's disappearance in the region. Let's try to see if the driver for Kamvas 22 series will resolve your issue.
The last two games will be sales behemoths, so Frontiers is going up against titans. This year, Sega is going big time in betting on Sonic Frontiers against Skull and Bones, God of War: Ragnarok, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While it did see some level of success with Heroes, Unleashed, and even Colors, ’06 and Forces fell extremely short of the promises their respective marketing cycles gave. At one point, Sega was successful in releasing mainline Sonic titles during the busy holiday months, but that gamble has not paid off in 20 years. It’s not clear if that gamble will pay off. This isn’t a throwaway installment of the series it’s a big, important one you won’t want to miss. While the game has gotten some mixed buzz (we weren’t sure what to make of it when we played it at Summer Game Fest), Sega’s marketing campaign is sending a strong message to fans. Unlike Sonic Forces, Sega seems confident it has a hit on its hands here. That was followed up by the announcement of a full-priced release and a very competitive holiday launch date. With a more cautious approach, Sega would wait for a more coordinated content blowout with previews on IGN First and a public demo at Gamescom 2022. There was radio silence from Sega about the game between the teaser trailer on the May 2021 Sonic Central stream and its announcement trailer at The Game Awards seven months later. Cristina Alexander/Digital Trendsįrontiers is a completely different story, though. I still have the Sonic Forces PS4 controller skin that came with my GameStop pre-order to prove it, and I’ve come to regret it. It was the only mainline console Sonic game to cost $40 at launch - a price tag that perhaps foreshadowed a lack of confidence in the final product. In the end, the game was a commercial failure due to a lackluster avatar creator system, sloppy writing (save for Episode Shadow), stiff animation, dull lighting, and some antagonists being falsely advertised as boss fights. That was due to various factors, including crunch issues and the development team being split in half.įast forward to 2017, and Sega’s marketing strategy for Sonic Forces involved releasing a heavy stream of trailers on YouTube every week and collaborating with Hooters in Japan. It was developed exclusively as a launch title for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but the final product didn’t live up to the heavy marketing resulting from the series’ 15th anniversary. That’s not to say that big marketing pushes have always paid off for Sega. It seems clear that Sega might be anticipating a repeat of that success with Frontiers … or at least that it hopes for one. With team-based gameplay, four storylines, level designs tailored to each team (not to mention the return of Team Chaotix), and graphics that were a huge improvement from the Sonic Adventure games, Sonic Heroes proved to be commercially successful. Sega went so far as to dub it the Year of Sonic, releasing Sonic X onto the American airwaves and McDonald’s Happy Meal toys to tie into the game (even though those toys came out several months after its release, oddly enough), as well as airing wacky commercials. It was the first Sonic game to go multi-platform, releasing not only on the GameCube, but on PS2, Xbox, and PC as well in an attempt to introduce younger audiences to the Blue Blur. In 2003, Sega went similarly hard with the marketing for Sonic Heroes. It was so popular that when the Dreamcast was put to pasture, Sega ported it over to the Nintendo GameCube under Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, which introduced a multiplayer battle mode (hence the title). The amount of gameplay content Sega packed into Sonic Adventure 2 - story campaigns from the Hero and Dark perspectives, side missions, and the beloved Chao Garden - was enough to give fans enough bang for their buck. The game was featured on the cover of several magazines, contests were run for a chance to win the game along with some Sonic 10th Anniversary merchandise, and a giant poster of Shadow the Hedgehog with the caption “Unleashed” draped the Los Angeles Convention Center like the American flag at E3 2001. Take the hype cycle around Sonic Adventure 2, the 10th-anniversary title for the series, for instance. In some ways, Sonic Frontiers‘ aggressive marketing push is a return to the early 2000s. That’s consistent with the rest of the game’s marketing cycle, which shows that Sega is more confident about the series than it has been in years. The price tag deviates from the cost of past Sonic games, and that’s another sign that Sega believes Frontiers has the scope of a full-sized Sonic game - especially since it’s the first open-world game in Sonic’s history.
The Windows Media Audio 9 codec (WMA 9) supports variable bit rate encoding (VBR), which enables even higher quality audio at smaller file sizes by automatically varying the encoding bit rate according to the complexity of the audio data. The resulting sound quality is 20 percent better than audio sampled with Windows Media Audio 8 at equivalent data rates. This codec samples audio at 44.1 or 48 kilohertz (kHz) using 16 bits, similar to the current CD standard, offering CD quality at data rates from 64 to 192 kilobits per second (Kbps). See Windows Media DRM for further information. This container can optionally support digital rights management (DRM) using a combination of elliptic curve cryptography key exchange, DES block cipher, a custom block cipher, RC4 stream cipher and the SHA-1 hashing function. Metadata may include song name, track number, artist name, and also audio normalization values. The ASF container format specifies how metadata about the file is to be encoded, similar to the ID3 tags used by MP3 files. These codecs are technically distinct and mutually incompatible. WMA Voice, targeted at voice content, applies compression using a range of low bit rates.Ī WMA file is in most circumstances encapsulated, or contained, in the Advanced Systems Format (ASF) container format, featuring a single audio track in one of following codecs: WMA, WMA Pro, WMA Lossless, or WMA Voice. A lossless codec, WMA Lossless, compresses audio data without loss of audio fidelity. WMA Pro, a newer and more advanced codec, supports multichannel and high resolution audio. The original WMA codec, known simply as WMA, was conceived as a competitor to the popular MP3 and RealAudio codecs. It is a proprietary technology that forms part of the Windows Media framework. The name can be used to refer to its audio file format or its audio codecs. Windows Media Audio (WMA) is an audio data compression technology developed by Microsoft. However, these activities are your only way to acquire unique gear that will help you in Mage Tower. If you also enjoy other in-game activities like Raiding or Mythic+ content, then you know how difficult it can be to slay a particular boss or pass a certain level. Keep reading further to learn what Guardian Druid Mage Tower strategy works best against each boss. Passing it successfully requires you to watch what debuffs you are suffering from, move constantly, and maximize your damage output. This challenge is one of the hardest in the game. You can see the way Holy Ward looks like in the screenshot below: To pass this encounter successfully, both of them should stay alive or you will have to give it another shot. The second NPC does nothing apart from a small amount of damage. The first NPC summons Holy Ward every 30 seconds, which lets you heal to full and get rid of all negative effects.īesides, it disorients all enemies (including the boss) for 5 seconds. There will be Velen and Kor’vas Bloodthorn to help you. Luckily, you are not fighting them and their mob army alone. Both bosses and their assistants will try to throw you off of it. The main encounter’s difficulty is remaining on the platform. Slaying him starts the second and final phase where you fight against Highlord Kruul. Once the battle starts, you are to slay Inquisitor Variss and a variety of annoying mobs he summons. It is one of the most difficult in-game activities since you have 2 phases to pass. The latter represents an encounter where you are to defeat two main bosses. The challenge you are going to face is called The Highlord’s Return. The only difference is that you are going to use new gear, talents, and so on. You still have to defeat the same boss on your own and survive throughout the encounter. Speaking of Guardian Druid Mage Tower in Dragonflight, it is not that different compared to previous expansions. If you wish to shorten the traveling time, just use Dalaran Hearthstone. To test yourself, find War Councilor Victoria at Deliverance Point and talk to her to start the challenge. Keep in mind that the boss you are going to face depends on what role your specialization executes. This in-game activity offers players to complete 7 boss encounters and get unique rewards for that. If you care about the challenge, keep trying at 911 because it should be doable.Fellow heroes, the long-awaited Mage Tower challenge has become available in the 10.0.5 patch once again. If you care about completion, I recommend just doing this and gearing the hell out of it. After hitting 110, it took another 8 hours played over two Tuesday resets to get to 935 (BoA Argus drops to get to 890ish, two LFR rounds, two rounds of weeklies for Veiled Argunite, +Argus quests for Argunite, Emissaries for legendary chances). I've also recently experimented with how quickly I can get a character geared after leveling some Allied Races. My shaman killed Agatha with only the default teleport (925 ilvl), feral druid (930) required a 2nd tele. The only one easier was Elemental Shaman, also on Agatha, because they are built to murder the imps without even trying to and can utilize absurd burst in the windows you have between teleports. All charges of Brutal Slash can be unloaded when imp packs spawn, they die very quickly from that.įeral Druid was the 2nd easiest of the DPS ones (I've completed all DPS ones). Lightblood elixir can be used on Agatha because it is "outdoor", unlike any other challenge. 'll reiterate this point and also the Brutal Slash point. If you can afford it get some Lightblood Elixirs. If I had to pick talents now, I'd personally use Predator/DB or Renewal/Balance Affinity/Any CC (they all have uses)/Incarnation/Brutal Slash/Moment of Clarity. I can't remember exactly what I used beyond these, since I did the mage tower before the Feral revamp and the talent positioning changed slightly. Balance Affinity also gives you nice range to work with kiting the adds that blow up and extra AoE radius. At the very least I'd say use Predator and Brutal Slash, as those make the largest impact since you have tons of AoE and adds dying all the time. Also, you never mentioned which talents you're using, as they can make a huge difference. While someone was semi-joking about getting to 930 ilvl, it will probably help a bit since the encounter doesn't scale with your ilvl. Kill the imps making her immune, DPS down her shield, interrupt her cast, continue as normal. This pulse will wreck you if it's up for too long, so try to save some burst AoE for when those immunity imps spawn. I think this is a case of better gear and more practiceHer shield should take top priority to break (even over healing imps, they don't heal that quickly) as she will continually ramp up a pulsing AoE the longer the shield stays up. It seems my health is a issue and i dont know the best time to break her shield |
